There was a time I would listen for what someone was saying.
The words.
The details.
The problem they were trying to solve.
And I was good at it.
But I didn’t yet realize how much I was missing.
Because now, I notice different things.
I notice the pause before someone answers.
The slight shift in energy when something important gets close to the surface.
The places where someone sounds certain—but isn’t.
I notice what’s not being said.
What’s being softened.
What’s being carried alone.
And maybe more importantly, I notice it in myself too.
The moments I want to rush to fix.
To smooth something over.
To move past what feels uncomfortable.
I catch it sooner now.
Not perfectly.
But sooner.
And that small shift-just noticing-changes what’s possible next.
It creates space.
Space to ask a better question.
Space to stay a little longer in something that matters.
Space to respond instead of react.
This work didn’t just change how I understand communication or leadership.
It changed how I show up inside of it.
How I listen.
How I pause.
How I choose what matters in a moment.
And once you start to see at that level…
it’s hard to unsee.
Not in a heavy way.
In a way that gives you more choice.
More clarity.
And, often, a little more steadiness- right when you need it most.
